You may or may not consider them good enough for PowerPoint handouts and the like, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are. They're certainly good enough for any internal use. Graphics and photos were both at the low end of the very tight ranges where most mono lasers fall. Text quality in our tests was just a hair below what you might want for desktop publishing applications, but easily good enough for almost any business use, unless you have an unusual need for small fonts. Output quality also counts as a strong point. We haven't tested any comparably priced printers that include an Ethernet connector that come close to the HL-2270DW for speed. However, the HL-2240 offers a USB connection only, and although the P1102w offers WiFi, it lacks an Ethernet connector. IMPORTANT indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in damage to property or loss of product functionality.

On the new version of our business applications suite (using QualityLogic's hardware and software for timing) it came in at an effective 11.7 pages per minute (ppm). I tested it with an Ethernet connection, using a system running Windows Vista. Setting up the printer on a network is standard fare. That's more than enough to draw a distinction between the HL-2240 as a definitively personal printer and the HL-2270DW as being an equally good choice as a shared printer in a micro office on the one hand, or a power user's personal printer in any size office on the other.
